Today is the beginning of the Festivals in Nepal. All the teachers and pupils came together to formally thank KIKN for providing the new facilities in this little state school in a very deprived areas of Kathmandu. They include a library, computer lab ( with 20 computers, desks and chairs ) science lab, Tiffin (breakfast)
During my short visit in April (just before the earthquake), I met some of Uma ‘s volunteers who were interested in KIKN’S work. They came on some home visits with us, and saw at first hand the dire home conditions the local children were living in. Some of them then became interested in our work.
A Big ‘Thank you’ from Reejana. Reejana is the young nursery teacher @Neel Barahi School whose family home was so badly damaged during the earthquake that they had to stay in a tent long after most of the people returned or found another room to rent. She supports her family of 7 on her meagre
KIKN has identified a family with 3 children living in a steel container in the aftermath of the earthquake. The children attend Jana Sudhar school. The eldest, Aneta Anai is a small 14 year old in class 6. She speaks very good English. Both children are good students according to Raju, the teacher who accompanied
Uma and I met 2 of the children Luni ( Uma’s daughter) sponsor. A very sad tale, it would appear that it is very common amongst the families from the lower socio-economic class. This little girl is 10 years old. Her brother is 5. They have been staying in a tent since the earthquake. Their
Uma and I paid our first visit to the school this morning. What an amazing welcome! Instead of children lining the street in the sun ( as of last year ), this year they all stayed in their respective classrooms and came forward with their bunches of flowers. A most touching gesture to say thank
