Home Visits

Uma and I visited 2 of our children who live in the slum by the main river. We thought we were seasoned workers…..We have seen it, been there, got the t-shirt….. and shock proof. How wrong we were!

The narrow path along the river is where the families have their front doors. Mass migration to Kathmandu from the rural villages created the temporary shacks which became permanent over time. Water for the families comes from a standpipe a distance away.

The river overflows frequently during the rainy season every year. Families have to evacuate when the flooding occurs. Sometimes it is in the middle of the night. Families will return when the flood water subsides usually after 3-6 hours. Thankfully the river was very dry today when we visited.

Such is the existence of some of KIKN’s sponsored children. When their studies are not satisfactory, who am I to put pressure on them without any understanding?

Uma and I are both speechless and shocked beyond belief. We are grateful for the life we lead……
