It has been raining almost everyday albeit lighter in the day ( a blessing) but with very heavy downpours during the night. I tend to have the whirring fan on, blocking out the tropical storm! It’s amazing what a difference a year makes – the bamboo skeleton house covered with sheets of corrugated iron is now a warm insulated home with a sealed ceiling, brick footing and proper windows. Following the devastating earthquake in April 2015 Ashmita’s family home was flattened. The family was having to live in a makeshift shelter since then. Parapokar Orphanage is the oldest orphanage in Kathmandu, started in the 1920s by local philanthropists. It has its own school in its grounds. It is a very well run and maintained orphanage. KIKN sponsors 5 of the girls there (pictured with the House Mother).
